About Norway tax
Norway has a flat 22% ordinary income tax rate on all income above the personal allowance (personfradrag), currently NOK 88,250/year. On top of that, trygdeavgift (social security contribution) is levied at 7.9% of gross income. For incomes above NOK 208,050, a bracket tax (trinnskatt) kicks in at 1.7%, rising in four steps to 17.4% above NOK 1,353,400.
The combined effective tax rate for a nurse on NOK 600,000/year is roughly 31–33%, which is moderate by Scandinavian standards — though that figure hides the employer's separate 14.1% social contribution on top of your gross salary.
